KUALA LUMPUR: KESM Industries Bhd is cautiously optimistic in the new financial year ending July 31, 2023 (FY23) as the worldwide semiconductor chip shortages as well as component shortages have not eased.“While the consumer sector may slow down, the automotive segment will continue to record growth as semiconductor content per vehicle will increase due to the transition to electric and autonomous vehicles“We serve leaders in the automotive semiconductor market. Their newer and advanced chips for cars must meet stringent quality and reliability specifications. At KESM, we ensure that their chips are processed with the highest test standards,” executive chairman Sam Lim said in a statement. The world's largest independent burn-in and test service provider posted a net loss of RM2.5mil, or loss per share of 5.82 sen in the four quarter ended July 31, (4Q) from a net loss of RM654,000, or 1.52 sen a year prior. Its revenue fell 4.1% to RM55.66mil against RM58.05mil in the same quarter last year.In FY22, KESM posted a net profit of RM1.67mil, down 77% from RM7.33mil last year while revenue dipped marginally to RM246.74mil versus RM248.26mil a year ago.“Although production volumes for test and burn-in of semiconductor devices have increased, the scaling down of our electronic manufacturing service activities significantly subdued our group’s overall performance,” Lim said.“Notwithstanding our muted results, we are proposing a final tax-exempt dividend of 6 sen per ordinary share, to be approved at the forthcoming annual general meeting. This is in addition to the interim dividend of 1.5 sen per ordinary share paid on Aug 23,” he added.
